Comparing Ontologies — Similarity Measures and a Comparison Study

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Ontologies serve as a means for communication at a semantic level. However, to be able to effectively communicate it is first necessary to determine agreement about the ontological structures underlying the communication. For this purpose, we consider ontologies as semiotic sign systems that are used to communicate meaning. Then we propose a methodology for measuring the extents to which two ontologies overlap and fit with each other at various semiotic levels. The measures that we propose are substantiated by a comparison study, where five human subjects have constructed ontologies about the same domain, but in isolation from each other. Building on this set of ontologies we have performed a multiple-phase cross-evaluation in order to determine adequacy of the measures proposed and inter-subject agreement about domain ontologies.

Domain-Specific Ontology Mapping by Corpus-Based Semantic Similarity

Mapping heterogeneous ontologies is usually performed manually by domain experts, or accomplished by computer programs via comparing the structures of the ontologies and the linguistic semantics of their concepts. In this work, we take a different approach to compare and map the concepts of heterogeneous domain-specific ontologies by using a document corpus in a domain similar to the domain of ...

An Empirical Comparison of Distance Measures for Multivariate Time Series Clustering

Multivariate time series (MTS) data are ubiquitous in science and daily life, and how to measure their similarity is a core part of MTS analyzing process. Many of the research efforts in this context have focused on proposing novel similarity measures for the underlying data. However, with the countless techniques to estimate similarity between MTS, this field suffers from a lack of comparative...

Counterparts in Language and Space Similarity and S-Connection

We aim to combine the semantics of spatial natural language specified as a linguistically motivated ontology, the Generalized Upper Model, with spatial logics or ontologies that specify space according to certain conceptualisations, based on regions, shapes, orientations, distances, or object properties. Such combinations, however, introduce uncertainties of various kinds, caused by different l...

HESITANT FUZZY INFORMATION MEASURES DERIVED FROM T-NORMS AND S-NORMS

In this contribution, we first introduce the concept of metrical T-norm-based similarity measure for hesitant fuzzy sets (HFSs) {by using the concept of T-norm-based distance measure}. Then, the relationship of the proposed {metrical T-norm-based} similarity {measures} with the {other kind of information measure, called the metrical T-norm-based} entropy measure {is} discussed. The main feature ...
